Why Aren’t All Buddhists Vegan?

Compassion is central to every single form of Buddhism, without exception. Together with wisdom, compassion forms the very heart and soul of the Buddhist way of life. Buddhists speak of compassion as a profound compulsion to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings. Animals are sentient beings (see the Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness). So why do so few Buddhists practice veganism? Personally, it strikes me as nothing short of a pathology, an addiction to which the addicted are blind. So, I wrote an argument that will hopefully help some x-buddhists along the way to a more consistent and honest relationship to a core value of Buddhism. Using the four noble truths, my argument shows the way to the only honorable path for a Buddhist committed to compassion: animal liberation.
